The recent takedown of the CEO of UnitedHealthcare highlights a troubling trend—a reflection of the growing frustrations within a system that seems to be unraveling the fabric of this country. Let me be absolutely clear: I do not condone, nor will I ever support, violence of any kind. However, this incident underscores the immense strain being felt across society as big money continues to dominate every aspect of our lives, including our healthcare.
The lack of support from the medical profession for the CEO speaks volumes about the chasm between healthcare providers and the insurance companies that dictate much of the care Americans receive. It’s a stark reminder of how far we’ve veered from a system designed to serve people over profits.
The frustration of the average citizen is palpable. We’re witnessing the slow erosion of the middle class, the backbone of this nation. In my humble opinion, we’re hurtling toward a society divided into two groups: the haves and the have-nots. The middle ground is vanishing at an alarming rate, leaving a stark contrast between the ultra-wealthy and those struggling to make ends meet.
Since moving to Florida, I’ve seen firsthand the immense wealth hidden behind gated communities. These enclaves of privilege are fortified, nearly impenetrable to outsiders. The homes within them—monuments to excess—are unlike anything most of us could ever imagine. These communities are not just about luxury; they’re a stark symbol of separation, a physical and societal divide that grows wider every day.
Our country faces a difficult road ahead. As someone nearing the end of their journey, I can only reflect with a sense of gratitude for the life I’ve lived. But I worry deeply for the next generations. They will inherit a nation very different from the one we’ve known—a nation grappling with division, inequity, and the challenges of navigating a fractured system.
If there’s one thing I urge, it’s to pray. Pray for your children, your grandchildren, and the future they will face. They’ll need every bit of strength, guidance, and grace to navigate the world we are leaving behind. Reforms are necessary, but so is hope. And it starts with us—acknowledging the challenges, seeking solutions, and standing together to advocate for a better future.
